The study focuses on Mackenyu's portrayal of leading and important supporting characters in several high-profile adaptations, including Netflix's One Piece, where he plays Zoro, and others such as Chihayafuru, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Rurouni Kenshin, and Fullmetal Alchemist. Employing qualitative analysis, this paper investigates how Mackenyu strategically navigates away from the shadow of his father, legendary actor Sonny Chiba, to forge an independent identity and career. Data was collected through reviews, audience reception studies, and box office performance, and analyzed to assess thematic consistency and cultural impact across different markets. Experts in film adaptation theory, such as Linda Hutcheon, and resources like The Routledge Companion to World Cinema provided theoretical frameworks for analyzing how narratives are adapted for global audiences and the role of actors in these adaptations. The findings reveal that Mackenyu's choices are not merely artistic but are also deliberate efforts to blend Eastern and Western cinematic traditions, enhancing his appeal as a global actor. His roles often reflect a profound engagement with his bicultural heritage, challenging the notion that he is only a "second-generation star." These roles resonate with global audiences and contribute to the ongoing discourse on cultural integration in film. The study concludes that Mackenyu is a key figure in the realm of live-action adaptations, with a unique ability to transcend cultural and cinematic boundaries.
2024-11-01T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 JURNAL BASIS https://forum.upbatam.ac.id/index.php/basis/article/view/8723 MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF COMPOUNDING IN THE NOVEL THE BURNING MAZE: THE TRIALS OF APOLLO BY RICK RIORDAN 2024-05-16T02:51:27+00:00 Lintang Ayu Mulyaningtyas 311202202468@mhs.dinus.ac.id Avicenia Nasywa Khoirunnisa 311202202466@mhs.dinus.ac.id Novelia Salsa Dara Kusuma 311202202472@mhs.dinus.ac.id Jumanto Jumanto ilhamj@dsn.dinus.ac.id
This research concerned a morphological analysis of compounding within The Burning Maze: The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan. The study's data, which focuses on the connection between theory and research, comprises spoken and written words. The researchers employ an observational strategy and note-taking technique to collect data from the speech. The data analysis uses an identification procedure that involves watching and listening to the video and audio to pinpoint the different illocutionary acts that Obama has used. Based on Searle's theory, the researchers categorize the transcriptions and find 21 illocutionary acts, such as directive, commissive, declarative, expressive, and representative. These results demonstrate that Obama's speech contained two directive acts, two commissive acts, five representative acts, six expressive acts, and six declarative acts. This study adds to our knowledge of how theories are revived through qualitative research and offers insightful information on the dynamics of illocutionary acts in speech. The findings provide additional insight into Obama's communication tactics and his rhetorical devices in his victory address. Subsequent investigations in this field may examine the influence and efficacy of illocutionary actions in political dialogue.
2024-11-01T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 JURNAL BASIS https://forum.upbatam.ac.id/index.php/basis/article/view/8877 EXPLORING POLITENESS STRATEGIES IN ‘A WALK TO REMEMBER’ MOVIE: A SOCIOLINGUISTIC APPROACH 2024-07-10T08:26:05+00:00 Hardiansyah Kasim hardikasim@gmail.com Robby Satria Robby@puterabatam.ac.id
The primary objective of this research is to determine the many types of politeness tactics and the prevalent ones in the film "A Walk to Remember". The creation of a lyric cannot be separated from its author. Sia Kate Isobelle Furler and Jesse Shatkin wrote the lyrics to the song entitled Chandelier. This research was conducted to find out how the psychological role of the author influences the literary work created by the author. The psychological theory that is very dominant in the analysis of literary works is Freud’s theory, where this theory differentiates personality into three types, namely Id, Ego, and Super Ego. Data collection uses documentation techniques from primary data sources, namely the lyrics of the song “Chandelier” and secondary data sources in the form of books, research journals, and articles which relevant. This research uses qualitative descriptive methods to conduct an analysis, using library research methods and content analysis methods to collect and analyze the data used. The research results show that the lyrics she created reflect the psychological state of the author. Represented through several sentences and characters built into the lyrics, which consist of 3 aspects of the Id, 3 aspects of the ego, and 1 aspect of the superego. This results in the conclusion that the psychological condition of the writer, Furler, who is a former alcoholic, can influence the creation of the lyrics of the song Chandelier where alcohol acts as an escape from the pain she felt, this is in line with Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory.
2024-11-01T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 JURNAL BASIS https://forum.upbatam.ac.id/index.php/basis/article/view/9078 EVALUATING TIN CASE CORRUPTION POTRAYAL IN THE JAKARTA POST: APPRAISAL FRAMEWORK 2024-08-20T01:43:04+00:00 Nina Tiya Hara ninatiyahara@gmail.com Maysarah Siregar maysarah201999@gmail.com Nurlela Nurlela nurlelamajrul@usu.ac.id
The appraisal framework serves as the methodology to evaluate language in news articles, revealing journalists' and news media outlets’ nuanced expressions of attitudes, emotions, and engagement in their reporting. This study embarks on an exploration of the appraisal framework within a selection of four news articles from The Jakarta Post, each addressing the pervasive issue of tin case corruption, resulting in a staggering loss of 271 trillion Rupiah for Indonesia. This study employs a qualitative descriptive design, utilizing Martin and White's (2005) appraisal analysis framework within Systemic Functional Linguistics. The appraisal theory is applied to examine the news outlet's language in reporting on corruption cases. The findings suggest a predominant utilization of heterogloss (30%) and judgement (25%) which indicates a multifaceted approach characterized by the incorporation of diverse viewpoints and critical evaluations towards the corruption unfolding in the tin case. Notably, monogloss (17.5%) and graduation (17.5%) also feature prominently, reflecting a balanced discourse that encompasses both singular perspectives and nuanced expressions of intensity. Additionally, the usage of appreciation (5%) and focus (5%) is comparatively minimal, suggesting a lesser emphasis on acknowledging positive actions or delineating specific aspects within the coverage. This research illuminates the relationship between journalistic language and public perceptions of corruption, highlighting the need for critical evaluation of media coverage to promote informed discourse and enhance anti-corruption efforts.
2024-11-01T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 JURNAL BASIS https://forum.upbatam.ac.id/index.php/basis/article/view/9266 SOCIAL IDENTITY AND ITS IMPACTS ON YOZO OBA’S ALIENATION IN “NO LONGER HUMAN” 2024-09-04T06:15:35+00:00 Alvionita Zyahwalian Prasetya alvionitazp@students.unnes.ac.id Thohiriyah Thohiriyah thohiriyah@mail.unnes.ac.id
This research is conducted to understand social identity development and its impacts on alienation experienced by Yozo Oba, the main character in Osamu Dazai’s No Longer Human (1958).
