EVALUATING TIN CASE CORRUPTION POTRAYAL IN THE JAKARTA POST: APPRAISAL FRAMEWORK

Abstrak

Appraisal analysis berfungsi sebagai metodologi terstruktur untuk mengevaluasi bahasa dan wacana yang ditemukan dalam artikel berita. Tujuan utamanya adalah untuk mengungkap ekspresi sikap, emosi, dan keterlibatan yang digunakan oleh jurnalis dan media dalam liputan berita mereka. Penelitian ini membahas appraisal analisis dalam empat artikel berita terpilih dari The Jakarta Post, yang masing-masing membahas isu korupsi seputar kasus timah, yang menyebabkan negara merugi sebesar 271 triliun rupiah. Data disajikan dalam desain kualitatif deskriptif dengan menganalisis bahasa yang digunakan oleh media berita menggunakan teori appraisal analisis Martin dan White (2005). Temuan riset mengungkapkan penggunaan dominan heterogloss (30%) dan judgement (25%), yang menandakan pendekatan kompleks dengan adanya  inkorporasi berbagai sudut pandang dan penilaian kritis terhadap praktik korupsi yang terungkap dalam kasus timah. Secara khusus, monogloss (17,5%) dan graduation (17,5%) juga memiliki kehadiran yang signifikan, merefleksikan wacana yang seimbang yang merangkul perspektif tunggal serta ekspresi intensitas yang beragam. Selain itu, penggunaan appreciation (5%) dan focus (5%) relatif minimal, menunjukkan penekanan yang lebih sedikit pada pengakuan tindakan positif atau penggambaran aspek spesifik dalam liputan. Dengan mengurai bahasa yang digunakan oleh The Jakarta Post melalui lensa appraisal analisis, penelitian ini menyoroti interaksi rumit antara wacana jurnalistik dan persepsi masyarakat tentang korupsi.
